PRESS RELEASE: Michigan GOP Convention Results

LANSING – Michigan Republicans elected conservative leaders this weekend to take the state’s Grand Old Party into the 2014 election. Delegates from across the state gathered at The Lansing Center to select fellow Republicans to lead the Party at the state and congressional district level.

Friday night, delegates from each state congressional district selected officers and committee members to lead the Party in their region. There was a close, three-way race for chair of the District. Jesse Osmer, of Alpena, won on the second ballot.

“I’m honored for the support I’ve received, and humbled to have been selected as the Chairman to lead the First District forward,” Osmer said. “2014 starts now, and I’m committed to retaining our Republican officials and expanding our majorities.”

The convention was a very diverse mix of traditional Party members and new activists. NMU College Republican Luke Londo; who serves as Secretary of the Marquette County Republican Party; was elected to represent the 109th House District on the District’s Executive Committee.

“I’m immensely grateful to have been selected as the First District Committeeman from the 109th House District,” Londo said. “I hope to fill the ballot District-wide with Republicans that will lead us toward progress and success, and deliver the 109th to a Republican for the first time in my lifetime.”

Kirk Schott of Ontonagon County and Eric Cadeau of Baraga County were elected to represent the 110th House District. The 108th House District will be represented by a husband and wife duo: Aime and Andrew Hulbert of Delta County.

The 1st District also elected UP residents to serve on the GOP’s State Committee. Janell Huuki, wife of former state representative Matt Huuki, R-Atlantic Mine; and Doug Sedenquest, Delta County GOP Vice Chair, will represent the 38th Senate District.

Former Houghton County GOP Chair Mary Sears will continue to serve as 1st District Vice Chair, representing the 38th Senate District. The full Statewide and 1st District results are as follows:
